India considers it necessary to expand cooperation with Russia in building new nuclear power stations, the press service of Russian Atomstroyexport (building nuclear power plants outside of Russia) with reference to the Chairman of the Commission for Atomic Energy of India, Anil Kakodkar, who spoke at a forum called “Nuclear Power in India – a vision to 2050, held in Mumbai.
“The desire of India to continue the active development of nuclear power, expanding opportunities for participation by Indian companies in the construction of nuclear power plants were confirmed in his report. Anil Kakodkar said that the accumulated successful experience of bilateral Russian-Indian cooperation in the construction of the first stage of Kudankulam nuclear power station, and there is a need of expanding nuclear power for another 4 blocks, as well as the construction of new nuclear power plants at other sites in India ” – Russian press-service company reports.
Atomstroieksport under the intergovernmental agreement is working on the construction of the Indian Kudankulam nuclear power station. The volume of Russian obligations of the company includes the development of technical design and working drawings, supervision of construction of buildings and facilities in the amount of plant design, supply of equipment and materials from Russia and third countries, technical support during installation and commissioning of nuclear power plants, the preparation of operational and maintenance staff in Russia.
Implementation of construction, installation and commissioning work at the NPP site, as well as putting the station into operation will carried out by the Indian side.
Russia previously received formal notification from India to allocate the area for construction of new nuclear power plant in the state of West Bengal. The documents on the construction of the third and fourth blocks of Kudankulam nuclear power station may be signed until the end of the year.
